The Cubs set a club record Tuesday by reaching three million fans at Wrigley Field faster than any other season in franchise history.
Tuesday's crowd for the Cubs' game against the Houston Astros was 39,846, and it pushed the team's home attendance mark to 3,014,301 for 74 games. Last year, the team reached three million fans in the 75th home game.
"We want to thank our incredible fans for their exceptional support of this franchise and the city of Chicago for helping us welcome so many guests to Wrigley Field during this memorable season," Cubs chairman Crane Kenney said.
The Cubs now have surpassed three million fans at Wrigley in each of the past five seasons. This year, the team is averaging 40,734 per home game with seven dates remaining. The Cubs are on pace to break the single-season record of 3,252,462, set last year, which was the largest single-season attendance mark for any franchise or venue in the history of the city of Chicago.
