If the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers are tied for first in the National League Central at the end of the regular season, the two will extend their final meeting and square off at Miller Park in a one-game playoff.
The Cubs lost a coin flip on Friday to determine home field advantage in the case of any one-game playoffs needed to break ties in the standings at the end of the regular season on Sept. 28.
The Cubs usually have an abundance of fans at the Brewers' ballpark, which has been dubbed "Wrigley Field North." Chicago is 4-0 in Milwaukee this year, sweeping a series there July 28-31. If a playoff game is needed, it'll be an easy trip for the team. The Cubs finish the season at Miller Park Sept. 26-28.
Only teams within 5 1/2 games were eligible for the coin flip.
The Cubs have a 5 1/2-game lead over the Brewers, but the season was on hold as they wait for the site and dates to be determined for makeup games against the Houston Astros. The threat of Hurricane Ike in Houston forced Major League Baseball and the Astros to postpone the series, which was originally scheduled to begin on Friday night at Minute Maid Park.
